Hey Tyler,

You're always a great read and an inspiration for meditations in Spanish over here. Hence the frequent shout-outs.

The fraud issue weighs pretty heavily on this decade, even if it may be an inheritance from the last two of the previous century. Somehow, when thinking of fraud, Brunello's small potatoes, though. I get to thinking of Bill Koch and let's just say that broader vistas immediately open.

But forgery of big-name wine isn't the same kind of swindle as adulteration, of course. Still, it all reeks in pretty much the same way. And, at least to me, there's something about the lack of transparency that Big Wine embraces as its MO that has a very similar smell. Let's just say that one of the hallmarks of this decade is how mistrustful it's made many of us regarding what's in the bottle we buy or desire to buy.

There's a gentleman in Philly with some stories to tell about a certain wine from Jumilla, no? :-)

And then there are the misgivings one has about the integrity of the most prominent figures in today's wine culturette... Let's just say that suspicions of adulteration are the least we're entitled to.

But you know all that, of course...

As far as my Wine Person of the Decade, well, it's a tough one.

Joe Dressner?

Hi Manuel,

Thanks for the shout-out! I agree that fraud/counterfeiting was definitely one of the main themes of the decade. But were there a lot of adulteration scandals? The ones of the past couple of years in Italy don't appear have health implications, thankfully, which is different from previous decades in the wine world.

I'm looking forward to hearing who you think is the Wine Person of the Decade!

Saludos,
